FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Remember, these answers are general guidelines, and it’s always best to consult with one of our doctors who can provide personalized recommendations and address any specific concerns you may have about your child’s oral health.

It is recommended that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by the age of 7. This allows orthodontists to assess their dental development and identify any potential issues that may require early intervention.

Early orthodontic intervention, also known as interceptive orthodontics, can address dental problems in children at a young age. By identifying and treating issues such as overcrowding, cross bites or misaligned jaws early on, we can help guide proper dental development, reduce the need for more extensive treatment in the future and potentially shorten the duration of orthodontic treatment.

Regular dental check-ups are crucial for maintaining your child’s oral health. In general, it is recommended that children visit the pediatric dentist every six months for routine check-ups and cleanings. However, the frequency may vary depending on your child’s specific dental needs and oral health status.

To prevent cavities, it is essential to encourage good oral hygiene practices. This includes brushing your child’s teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily and limiting sugary snacks and drinks. Additionally, regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings can help detect and address early signs of tooth decay.

Dental X-rays are generally safe and emit minimal radiation. Pediatric dentists take necessary precautions, such as using lead aprons and thyroid collars, to ensure the safety of your child during X-ray procedures. X-rays are crucial for detecting dental issues that may not be visible during a visual examination, allowing for early intervention and treatment if necessary.

“We chose Wake Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry because our daughter has special needs and their practice was recommended to us as newcomers to the Raleigh area. The one-stop experience of a practice that caters to both orthodontic and dental needs has helped us overcome our daughters anxiety about meeting new people and acclimating to new environments. Dr. Dave and Dr. McCutchen have made the overall experience wonderful by helping our daughter overcome her anxieties about going to the dentist and the orthodontist. The team at Wake Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry make us feel like family when we visit, and this is very comforting to us. We have recommended the team to all of our friends and neighbors. The team’s willingness to work within our schedule and incredible bedside manner is a big plus!”

“Y’all, I cannot sing the praises enough of Wake Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. A week ago today, our youngest fell off the swing at home. I called the dentist and sent them over pictures of her mouth. After talking to Dr. Pretzer, we decided it would be best to first go to the urgent care to have her mouth and lip fixed. When we got there, the wait was 3-5 hours. Dr. Pretzer called us while we were waiting to check on us. When we told him the wait, he told us to meet him and his oral surgeon, Dr. Benson, in the Raleigh office. They called in their staff and met us at their Raleigh office at 6:00 pm. They were so wonderful and took such good care of our baby! If you ever need any dental procedures done, I HIGHLY suggest going to see Dr. Pretzer and Dr. Benson! They both have been so wonderful and their entire staff has been AMAZING.”
